HDL cholesterol levels starting at diagnosis as a type 2 diabetic and 2 years of a diabetic diet food plan to implement a program of dietary control of diabetes without resorting to medications:

Diabetic cholesterol levels for diabetic LDL cholesterol control are better if lower. Diabetic HDL cholesterol levels are the opposite. Diabetic HDL cholesterol levels are better if higher, and for the diabetic HDL cholesterol levels should be over 40 mg/dL.
In the chart, the first bar is our HDL cholesterol level before we knew we had type 2 diabetes,. Subsequent bars are after we began to practice our medication free (no pills or medications) diabetes control by diet and lifestyle intervention. We did not optimize our dietary control of diabetes diabetic diet menu to specifically address our cholesterol problem - the changes in the chart took place as a beneficial side result of our diabetic diet plan.
These results are from practicing the lifestyle intervention changes described here at the Diabetes Life Guide and practicing dietary control of diabetes as described at the sister site to the Diabetes Life Guide, Diabetic Life Diet: Dietary Control of Diabetes. There you can find out what is a diabetic diet really, read discussions about what diabetic diet tips are the best and even learn about the 'nearly' vegetarian diabetic diet plan for dietary control of diabetes and how you can be your own diabetic diet guide for controlling your own type 2 diabetes.
